Archos launches cut-price media player with FM transmitter
Posted on 3 Jul 2009 at 10:51
Archos has announced a new flash-memory-based Personal Media Player, the Archos 3 vision. It has a gorgeous 3in, 400x240 OLED display and 8GB of storage.
The device is the size of a mobile phone and has a simple interface that uses a single "Home" button for returning to the main menu, like Apple's iPhone.
It can play a wide range of formats, with support for MP3, non-protected WMA, WAV, OGG and FLAC files, which is great news for music purists. It can also play a number of video formats including Flash and Real Media files, and it can read text and lyrics files. Image files in JPEG, BMP and GIF format can be viewed.
A USB port handles both power and data, and the 3 vision supports mass storage standards, so will appear as a new drive under Windows, so that you can drag and drop files straight to it. There are also cables supplied in the box that let you output video and images to a TV. An FM radio is built in, as well as an FM transmitter, so you can play your MP3s on a car stereo without having to connect any cables.
The 3 vision will cost just £90 when it's released later this month.
