Beatles MP3s to be released on USB flash drive
Posted on 5 Nov 2009 at 11:00
The Beatles' entire back catalogue of music will be released as a set of MP3 files on a USB flash drive on the 7th December.
Digitally remastered versions of all the Beatles' songs will be available on a limited edition apple-shaped USB flash drive and not as a download from an online music store such as iTunes. The music will come not only as 320kbps MP3 files, but also as lossless FLAC files. The Beatles have so far refused to sell their music online as digital downloads, one of the few major bands left to do so.
The limited edition USB stick won't be cheap though. It can only be ordered from the Beatles' official online store for £200 - £46 more than the CD version which costs £154 from Amazon UK. The USB stick will contain digital versions of the extra content included with the CD version, such as liner notes.
Despite its high cost, demand has been so high that music publisher EMI is selling the USB stick on a first-come, first-served basis and can't guarantee that orders will be fulfilled.
