iTunes takes offence at doo w*p

Apple goes to great lengths to ensure that it doesn’t offend iTunes users, but its automatic censoring system went a little to far last week, taking exception to the established musical term, doo wop.
People searching for tracks and albums with “doo wop” in the title found that the third “o” had been replaced by an asterisk, though its wider use, as one of iTunes’s standard genres, was unaffected.
Adam Howorth, head of Music PR at Apple said that there was a simple explanation.
“We have an automated system which looks for potentially off words and asterisks out certain ones based on the rules, and wop is one of those. In the context of this music it is an error.”
Apple has since restored the missing letter.
