iRiver iFP-1090 Prism Eye review

Verdict:

Review Date: 19 Oct 2004

Our Rating 2 stars out of 5

The Prism Eye is just the thing to make a gadget lover's eyes light up.

It's an MP3 player, FM radio, voice recorder and digital camera, all built into a reasonably small, classy-looking prism-shaped case. The 256MB capacity is enough for around five MP3 albums or 4,000 photos at the camera's 640x480 resolution. Sound quality on all audio functions is excellent, but image quality is no better than from cameras built into mobile phones.

As with iRiver's H320 reviewed last month, the Prism Eye's main problem is that each of its buttons serves a different, often unrelated function depending on the mode you're in and whether you press it quickly or hold it down for a second. Using it for the first time is an unnerving experience.

Excellent sound quality, a classy colour screen, a whopping 30-hour battery life, clear radio reception and the camera function are all welcome, but £180 is an awful lot to pay for a 256MB player.
