Apple iPod Mini review
Apple's iPod Mini is a music player to aspire to. From the moment you extricate it from its packaging, everything about it oozes quality. Even the box is beautifully designed!
Thankfully, the player sounds fantastic, although its headphones are dire. Swap them for a better pair such as Sennheiser's MX 500s or MX 550s and you'll really notice a difference.
Connecting the Mini up to your PC is straightforward. Install Apple's iTunes software and you can rip your favourite CDs to MP3, uncompressed WAV or Apple's proprietary AAC format. You can also use Apple's Lossless Encoder. This doesn't compress your music files as much as AAC or MP3, but provides sound quality identical to the original recording. Good thinking Apple!
The iPod Mini is a joy to use and its 4GB hard disk is easily big enough for most people. It's a shame you can't drag and drop files onto it, but it's so simple to use and beautiful to look at, it's easy to overlook this one shortcoming.
