Apple brings back Final Cut Studio
Posted on 6 Sep 2011 at 10:57
Apple has confirmed that it is making the older Final Cut Studio video editing suite available to buy, following a massive backlash around the release of Final Cut X.
A revamped version of the Cupertino-based company's popular video editing package, Final Cut X was supposed to reboot the product line with a range of new features and a simpler user interface.
Sadly, it also dropped many of the advanced features that professional videographers and editors had become used to having - making it, its detractors claim, completely unsuitable for use in a broadcast video production environment.
For field producers, that's a nightmare: the MacBook Pro with a copy of Final Cut has long been the chief tool in the arsenal of many a roving reporter, and the release of Final Cut X saw earlier - and more advanced - editions removed from sale.
While Apple has officially backed its latest release, it's also aware that many users want additional licences for the older version. As a result, it has decided - without much publicity - to start selling the last version of Final Cut Studio again.
Buyers who specifically request it can be given a licence for the older release for $999, with buyers wishing to take advantage of the offer asked to call Apple's sales line directly as the web store is still only selling Final Cut X.
