MSN launches Music service in the UK
Posted on 4 Nov 2009 at 12:42
Microsoft has finally launched a beta of its MSN Music service in the UK. It was originally planned to launch in the summer, but was delayed till today. The service can be found at http://downloads.music.uk.msn.com and will allow users access to over one million tracks from all the major labels.
The beta will allow selected users to stream unlimited quantities of music from the site, there's no word on how these users will be selected. We got onto the beta with no problems, and are enjoying advert-free streaming music for free, a step up from Spotify's ad-supported free service.
You can also buy tracks for 79p each or £7.99 for an album. These are high-quality 192kbps tracks available in MP3 or WMA format. All paid for downloaded content will be free of digital rights management (DRM) protection.
The music library will constantly be updated along with artist information such as biographies and discographies. There are also guest artists, who provide their own personal playlists for your enjoyment. To use the site, you'll need a new or existing Windows Live ID.
