Unlike the other NAS devices in this group, the DataStation requires you to install a driver on every PC that accesses it.
This is annoying, but it's a problem only if you have lots of computers. You can pair it with another DataStation as part of a RAID array, but apart from this it has no extra features.
We were surprised by the DataStation's performance. It was particularly quick in our small-file tests, reading at a speedy 5.17MB/s and writing at a table-topping 7.27MB/s. Its performance in our large-file tests was also above average. You can connect the DataStation to a single computer by USB. Apart from a sluggish speed of 2.63MB/s when writing small files, its USB performance was as good as wefd expect from a USB disk.
The DataStation lacks any fancy features, but it's quick and cheap. If you just want to add some network storage, it's a good buy.
