A new development will let you control all of your household appliances with your mobile phone.
Nokia is launching an open Linux platform that will allow you to control smart refrigerators, energy-saving washing machines, heating and security systems, curtains and set-top boxes from one remote control: your mobile phone.
The Nokia Home Control Center is a wireless router that "acts as a dictionary that translates different technological languages," according to the company, so that they a multitude of appliances can be controlled from one unified interface.
"It will be possible for example to monitor and control electricity usage, to swich devices on and off, and monitor different objects, such as temperature, camera, and motion," said Nokia in a statement.
"The Home Control Center platform covers everything from a basic security solution to a more sophisticated heating control system. Users are free to build a solution that fits to their needs and expand it when ever they want."
The company said it developed the platform as mobility is becoming an increasingly important factor in people's homes, with wireless technologies for smart home solutions are emerging.
Wireless broadband has become main stream and multimedia consumption over home networks is increasing, the company said.
"From many studies we know that moving from a multimedia network to a smart home network is a much smaller step than building a wired smart home from the scratch."
