Sitecom launches new dual-band wireless router

Sitecom has announced a new wireless router, which employs a dual-band radio for the best possible performance.
The WL-350 Wireless Media Router 300N (with internal antennas) claims to be able to download and wirelessly stream HD videos. This is due to the simultaneous use of the standard 2.4GHz frequency and the less-congested 5GHz frequency. Some dual-band routers can use only one or other radio at once, but the latest models like the WL-350 claim to give much better throughput when paired up with a matching receiver, such as a USB dongle.
The WL-350 also has StreamEngine Quality of Service technology that gives automatic priority to time-sensitive applications, such as streaming HD video, VoIP and gaming. Additionally, the Media Router has a USB port so you can connect an external USB storage device. This turns the WL-350 into a basic NAS and means you can access your files across the internet.
Sitecom also claims to have simplified the process of installation and security, since the unit is pre-configured with a WPA2 passphrase. The OPS (One-push Setup) button makes it much easier to establish a secure wireless connection with compatible WiFi dongles, such as Sitecom's own WL-329 SL Wireless Media Adapter 300N. This is a dual-band adaptor which takes full advantage of the WL-350's concurrent 2.4GHz and 5GHz capabilities.
Sadly, this isn't an ADSL router, but an ADSL modem can be connected to the WL-350's WAN port if you don't have cable broadband. The WL-350 and WL-329 SL will be available from October and are backed by Sitecom's 10 year warranty.
We'll bring you our test results and a full in-depth review shortly.
