Vodafone rebrands 3G boosting service as Sure Signal
Posted on 20 Jan 2010 at 10:57
Vodafone is attempting to lure people to its network with the promise of perfect 3G reception at home thanks to its Sure Signal service.
Sure Signal isn't new, but rather a rebranded Access Gateway femtocell. The product is basically a personal 3G base station that routes your phone calls and data over your broadband connection.
When we reviewed the product back in August we were pleased with the way it boosted phone reception, but disappointed that using it offered no discounts. So, despite the fact that browsing actually uses your internet connection, data is charged at your contract's standard rate and download limits, as are phone calls.
Vodafone has dropped the price of the gateway, offering Sure Signal for a one-off price of £50. As it stands, Sure Signal's brilliant if you live or work somewhere that gets no mobile reception at all, but Vodafone really needs to offer discounts for using it to make it a must-have.
