BT announces superfast 40Mbit/s broadband
Posted on 22 Jan 2010 at 10:58
BT has announced its Infinity service, which promises broadband speeds of up to 40Mbit/s – twice as fast as its existing 20Mbit/s ADSL broadband service.
BT's' new Infinity broadband service uses fibre optic technology and will have download speeds of up to 40Mbit/s, although you'll have to sign up to an 18 month contract.
The cheapest option costs £19.99 a month, but you're limited to 20GB of downloads a month and 2Mbit/s upload speeds. The slightly more expensive £24.99 a month option has no download limit and faster 10Mbit/s upload speeds.
BT Infinity can be ordered from 25th January, but only in a few, selected areas. Virgin Media's competing 50Mbit/s cable broadband service also has limited availability and doesn't have a download limit.
It costs £28 a month on a 12 month contract if you also take Virgin's £11 a month phone service, although you can save money if you also subscribe to Virgin's cable TV service.
