Our Rating
In our short-range transfer test, the SMC took 55 seconds to move 100MB -faster than any of its competitors.
In our long-range test it took 68 seconds to move the same set of files. This is six seconds slower than the Kcorp PC adapter, but is still a very good result.
The bundled configuration utility doesn't do much that Windows XP won't already do, but if you're running an older version of Windows it will still be useful. The adapter is WPA and WEP compliant so you'll be able to properly secure your network against snoops and thieves. Our only real qualm was that at £38 (excluding VAT) it's the most expensive card.
If the SMC had been any cheaper, it would have won our Top 50 Best Buy award. As things stand, its transfer speeds and support for WPA are still enough to get the SMC a Recommended award.
