As well as being a USB wireless adaptor, TRENDnet's TEW-429UB is also a wireless network finder. The adaptor charges when plugged into a USB port and, when unplugged, pressing the scan button makes it search for hotspots.
The LCD shows the name of the network, its operating channel, signal strength and which kind of encryption it uses, if any. There are also three search modes: S mode lists the available networks in order of signal strength, F mode lists all unencrypted networks and D mode locks on to a single network so you can find the location with the best signal strength.
The TEW-429UB does the same job as ZyXel's AG-225H, which we reviewed in Shopper February 2006, but it is £15 cheaper.
