Buffalo Gigabit LinkStation 300GB review
The Gigabit LinkStation performed well in both our big and small file read tests. It wasn't nearly as impressive in our big and small file write tests, though, so expect longer waits when loading up the LinkStation in the first place.
The setup utility and web interface are clearly laid out, but setting up the FTP server isn't as easy as it is with the Freecom FSG-3. Annoyingly, the LinkStation is able to stream music, photos and videos only to Buffalo-branded network media players.
There are two USB ports for connecting a USB disk and a USB printer. We were able to schedule a timed backup of data stored on the LinkStation to the USB disk, but the LinkStation must format the disk first. You can't plug in two printers or two USB disks at the same time.
The LinkStation's storage cost of 80p per gigabyte is rather high. Unless you already have a Buffalo network media player, there is no compelling reason to opt for the LinkStation.
