Plextor PX-EH40L review
Setting up Plextor's PX-EH40L was easy enough, but the web interface for configuring its various options could be better laid out.
Our DVD test movie played back smoothly. Accessing the contents of a USB hard disk plugged into the PX-EH40L was also painless. While it is possible to schedule backups of the contents of the PX-EH40L to a USB disk, you can select only top-level folders and not subfolders for backup. There is also a 2GB limit on the size of the files you can schedule for backup.
The Plextor's performance was satisfactory. It came mid-table in all our tests except writing small files, where only the Freecom Classic was faster. It is possible to print to a USB printer over the network via the PX-EH40L, but it took longer than the other devices in our group to spool a document.
The PX-EH40L performs reasonably, but for the same price the Maxtor Shared Storage Plus offers 100GB more storage, easier setup and a more flexible backup system.
