Powerful and packed with features, but the stylish Acer offers more for less money.

Our Rating
The Asus is is one of the more highly specified PCs in this group, and one of only two to offer a modicum of gaming ability.
The nVidia GeForce 7600 GS graphics card won't have you racing through the very latest games on their top settings, but slightly older games are well within its range.
It also has an excellent selection of outputs - HDMI, DVI, component, composite and S-Video - and a remote keyboard with touchpad to rival the Acer's. But that's the main problem with the Asus: everything it does, the Acer also does - and more. For £47 less. And with a less boxy case.
This is the only machine with a desktop Core 2 Duo processor, but the speed advantage isn't really noticeable. The memory card reader and 802.11g wireless are matched by the Acer, as is the 250GB hard disk. The final clincher is the noise level: particularly when spinning a DVD, the Asus makes a heck of a racket. Despite a good warranty, it can't quite match the Acer's value.
