Asus's new touch-screen PCs
Posted on 25 Sep 2009 at 17:40
There are two new Eee Top all-in-one PCs being released: the ET2002 and ET2203. Both are slender, good-looking and well-built - that much we can say from seeing a preview sample in our offices. Plus, with bigger displays and built-in optical drives, these new Eee tops are far better equipped than the old Eee Top ET1602.
Both new models have touch-screen displays, too, along with Windows 7 to make the most of them. However, these are only single-touch rather than the gesture recognising multi-touch variety.
The ET2002 is a nettop built around a 20in display with a resolution of 1,600x900. It has a dual-core Atom processor, 2GB of RAM and an Nvidia Ion chipset, meaning that it will feels snappier in Windows than most nettops and play Blu-ray quality HD video. As well as the DVD writer, there's a 250GB hard disk. It will retail for around £559 inc VAT.
The larger ET2203 has a 21.6in screen with a full-HD 1,920x1,080 resolution. It's considerably more powerful too, with a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo T6600 processor, 4GB of RAM and a mid-range ATI Radeon HD 4570 chipset. This model also has a built-in Blu-ray drive and 500GB hard disk. It will retail for around £819 inc VAT
We were most impressed to discover that both models have HDMI inputs, so you can plug in a games console or camcorder and use the screen. There's also a range of software utilities provided to enhance touch-screen use. Both models will be available from the 22nd of October, we'll bring you a full review when retail samples are available.
