Asus EeeKeyboard PC goes on sale
Posted on 12 May 2010 at 11:21
Asus's innovative EeeKeyboard PC has been on the cards for some time, but has finally gone on sale in the US for $599 - which equates to roughly £400. For your money you get a complete PC built into a keyboard measuring just 24x425x145mm.
Its specifications are familiar from innumerable netbooks and nettops, with an N270 Atom processor with 1GB of RAM. In addition, there's a Broadcom graphics chip, which gives smooth playback of HD content - essential for use in the living room.
There's a built-in 5in touchscreen display, which supports multi-touch. This can be used to launch applications, control media playback, browse web content, and acts as a touchpad.
Though you can use the 5in screen alone for basic tasks, the EeeKeyboard is designed to connect to a display, probably a HD TV, via its wireless HDMI link. This has a 5m range, and comes with a receiver unit that connects to your TV. In the picture below you can see the clip-on antenna.
It's an intriguing concept, bringing together elements of a laptop, smartphone and media centre PC into one slick-looking device. We can't wait for a UK launch of the EeeKeyboard PC, and will bring you a full review when that happens.
Plenty more information is available at Asus's website on its EeeKeyboard page.
