A PC for just £212? Surely that's too good to be true? Sadly it is.

If you don't have Office 2000, Evesham can supply a copy of the handy Star Office suite instead. This package contains a decent word processor, spreadsheet and other work-oriented applications.

To tempt you further into the world of Linux, Lindows has a software 'Click-N-Run' Warehouse. Log on, find the software you want, click on it and it'll be downloaded to your PC and installed automatically. Currently, there are over 1,600 programs ranging from games to music and serious work programs - all freely downloadable.

So, you're short of cash but need a PC. Should you buy the Evesham.com Lindows PC? I'd say no. Sure, it's cheap, but you don't get a monitor or speakers. It's keyboard and mouse are poor too. You'll also be resigning yourself to a PC that won't be able to run any of the software reviewed in this magazine. If your mates are playing Windows games, you won't be able to join in - this PC is too slow and Lindows won't support them.

You'll also need to learn a whole new way of using a PC - the computer skills you develop with this PC are unlikely be directly applicable to your office and job. We'd recommend you steer clear of this PC and beg, steal and borrow for a simple Windows-based system.

That said, if you're of an inquisitive bent and would like to try using Lindows or Linux on your desktop PC, by all means do. You don't need to spend any money - you can download both free from the Internet and experience a world away from Windows.
