Aries 350W review

Our Rating 2 stars out of 5

Aries' 350W power supply is of the quality you'd typically find in a cheap PC case.

It has the right connectors for a modern PC, including a 24-pin motherboard connector and one SATA connector, but there is no adaptor to support an older 20-pin board.

The Aries 350W performed poorly in our tests. The 3.3V, 5V and 12V primary rails were within the ATX specification at 50, 75 and 100% loads, but at 100% load the supply ran for only one minute before its internal temperature reached a dangerous 80C and we had to turn it off. This means that the supply is only really capable of outputting around 250W, not the 350W claimed by Aries.

The power supply was also one of the least efficient in the group. Its average power efficiency was the worst at 69.7%, dragged down by a terrible efficiency of just 63% when running at 100% load. This 350W power supply may be cheap, but the vastly superior 350W Silver Power PSU costs just £4 more
