Our Rating
Eclipse won our recent group test of Core 2 Duo-powered desktop PCs, so we had high hopes for its Max Series i6300.
Eclipse has used the lowest rated processor in Intel's Core 2 range, the E6300, partnered with 1GB of DDR2 RAM. Despite the RAM being the faster rated 667MHz variety, the i6300 failed to deliver the performance of its rivals. Our application benchmarks reported a score of 138%, which was just behind the Gladiator and Vantage machines.
Gaming performance was disappointing too - despite the MSI 7600GT graphics card, the Eclipse scored just 74% in our Call of Duty 2 test.
The ASRock motherboard has both AGP and PCIe slots, and supports DDR and DDR2 memory. However, as Eclipse has already installed a PCIe graphics card and DDR2 memory, this flexibility is wasted. Expansion is limited too, as the ASRock motherboard only has a single SATA port spare, which is disappointing.
