Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 review
The Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 is a mid-range graphics card that uses 1,152 CUDA cores running at 980MHz and 2GB of GDDR5 graphics memory running at 1.5GHz to play many of the latest games at high quality levels. As the GTX 760 has two DVI, one HDMI and one DisplayPort outputs you should have no trouble connecting it to your monitor. The many outputs also mean you can use multiple monitors in Nvidia Surround mode. To power it, you’ll need two 6-pin PCI-E connectors.
We first subjected the GTX 760 to our Dirt Showdown benchmark and were pleased to see a slick average frame rate of 61.1fps at a resolution of 1,920x1,080 with 4x anti-aliasing and graphics quality set to Ultra. Reducing graphics quality to High increased the average frame rate to 121fps. We also ran our Dirt Showdown benchmark at the much higher resolution of 2,560x1,440 with 4x anti-aliasing and graphics quality set to Ultra. Even at these high settings, the GTX 760 produced a comfortably smooth 44.1fps.
It also had no problem running our Crysis 2 benchmark at 1,920x1,080 with graphics quality set to Ultra, producing an average frame rate of 35.6fps. With graphics quality reduced to Extreme the average frame rate shot up to a very smooth 57.5fps. We also ran the Crysis 2 benchmark at a resolution of 2,560x1,440, but had to set graphics quality to Extreme to see an average frame rate above 30fps, with the card producing 31.2fps at this setting.
To see how well the GTX 760 copes with the latest high-end games we subjected it to our Crysis 3 benchmark. Sadly, the GTX 760 produced a jerky average frame rate of 22fps at a resolution of 1,920x1,080 with all graphics options set to Very High, with a minimum frame rate of 16fps and a maximum of 28fps. Reducing graphics quality settings to High with 4x anti-aliasing produced a smoother average frame rate of 42.2fps. There were a couple of jerky moments when the frame rate dropped, but at these settings the game was mostly smooth.
The Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 is a capable card that’ll play many games at a resolution of 1,920x1,080 and the highest graphics quality. It was challenged by our Crysis 3 benchmark, but it should provide you with many hours of gaming please in the next couple of years as long as you’re willing to reduce graphics quality for the most graphically demanding games.
