Storage Depot SATA Docking Station review

Verdict:

Our Rating 5 stars out of 5

The Multi Dock station looks like a cross between a label printer and a charging station for a fancy shaver, but it provides a simple way to connect several hard disks to your computer.

Once the device is connected to a USB port and the mains, you can simply slot in a SATA hard disk and access it in Windows. There's no faffing about with fitting hard disks into fancy caddies. It accepts both 3½in and 2¼in SATA hard disks, which click snugly into place when you install them. You need to remember to click Safely Remove Hardware in Windows before pulling them out, but otherwise you can swap drives extremely quickly.

As the drive is exposed, it's not ideal for long-term use, but if you want to access a number of disks quickly, such as for backups, it's brilliant. It also has a USB port and a card reader that supports popular memory card formats, including SD, SDHC and Memory Stick. If you want to access hard disks quickly and with the minimum of fuss, it's ideal.
