Most third-party keyboards are Mac compatible but are designed for use with Windows so the Control, Command and Alt keys are all in the wrong place.
The new diNovo keyboard from Logitech is designed specifically for the Mac so has those keys exactly where they should be. At ?70, though, it's a hefty price to pay for a keyboard, especially as you get a well-designed and robust, albeit wired, model with every new Mac bar the mini.
The diNovo keyboard is wireless and requires the use of an RF transmitter, which swallows up a USB port, but the dongle is small. Setup is simple: insert the dongle and follow the three-step process to identify the keyboard, and that's it. The only downside to using an RF dongle as opposed to, say, Bluetooth is that should you lose the tiny transmitter, your keyboard is rendered unusable.
Clearly, Logitech has been looking at Apple packaging techniques: clear plastic bags with translucent stickers abound. It's certainly been packaged like a ?70 product. The keyboard itself feels really solid and Logitech has clearly worked on the construction elements as well as design. The brushed aluminium palm rest is not only pretty, but functional, too, as it's perfectly placed for comfortable typing. There are also a number of hot keys for launching Dashboard, Safari, Mail and so on.
Typing on the diNovo is a joy and it quickly eclipsed and replaced our standard Apple keyboard. For anyone who types for a living, the Logitech benefits from a really excellent level of travel that encourages accurate and comfortable use, especially over a prolonged period.
Okay, ?70 may sound a bit steep even for Mac compatibility, but if you're slaving away over a hot keyboard all day long, then it's a price worth paying. The additional function keys that allow you to launch various Mac OS X features are an added bonus, too. If you're in the market for a keyboard to replace the Apple-supplied kit then the diNovo is definitely worth the cash.
