Our Rating
In the photographic test, even the cheapest scanners did well. The Acer reflected its higher price though, sitting in the top league of scanners that we tested, although it did have a little trouble with low contrast, and its focus wasn't quite as sharp as the very best machines.
When scanning black text at maximum resolution, the differences were more pronounced. But again, the Acer maintained a similar stance - it outperformed cheaper models, but a hint of jaggedness kept it from pole position.
Overall, the Acer is a very competent performer. However, extras such as the transparency add-on and the SCSI card push the price up to a point where it has to compete with some very stiff competition. Unfortunately, in this company it doesn't quite make the grade.
