Prime Day is done, but Sony's excellent WH-1000XM4 headphones are still going cheap
If you’re in search of a Prime Day deal on a pair of over-ear headphones, look no further than the Sony WH-1000XM4 earbuds.
Amazon is selling the five-star rated noise-cancellers for just £229, knocking £50 off the price they’ve been going for recently and 35% off their RRP of £350.
It’s not quite the cheapest we’ve seen them – they spent a very brief time at £202 last September and were £209 over Prime Day – but you’re still getting a blinding bargain on one of the best pairs of headphones on the market.
Indeed, it was only after the release of the Sony WH-1000XM5 earlier this year that the XM4 were dethroned as our favourite over-ear, noise-cancelling and Bluetooth headphones.
Key to the Sony WH-1000XM4’s success is their combination of comfort, noise cancellation and sound quality. The former comes courtesy of a lightweight build, supremely soft earcups and a headband that is neatly contoured to your head, while noise cancellation is as smart as it is effective.
The headphones are able to pick up on the noise-cancelling requirements of your surroundings and adjust ANC on the fly and can even tell whether you’re walking, running or sitting on a bus and tweak settings accordingly. There’s an element of user input too, with the ability to add noise cancelling and sound profile settings for specific locations you visit regularly.

As touched on above, the Sony WH-1000XM4 also sound fantastic. They’re dynamically astute, deliver a robust low-end response, and reproduce music with oodles of detail. Throw in a handful of helpful convenience features like Speak-to-Chat, wear detection and gesture controls and you’ve got yourself a true Bluetooth behemoth.
They may not sound quite as good as the updated model, nor do they cancel external sound quite as well, but their price makes them the superior choice for most people, and that’s truer than ever following this incredible post-Prime Day discount.
