Canon PIXMA MP160 review

Verdict:

The MP160 is a very basic multifunction device, but it's excellent if your budget is tight.

Review Date: 18 Jan 2007

Our Rating 4 stars out of 5

At just £40, Canon's MP160 is one of the most affordable MFDs you can buy.

As you might expect for such a low price, it's a no-frills device with only a simple display and no fax or memory card reader. It does have a PictBridge port though, which is useful for photo printing from a compatible camera.

What it lacks in features, it makes up for in quality, ease of use and speed. It can print draft text fairly quickly, but higher quality settings are quite rapid too, with letter-quality text appearing at over 7ppm. Printed results are good, though colours were a little faint compared to those from the HP Photosmart C5180.

The MP160 has a good scanner that, while a little noisy, is pretty fast. It produced sharp and detailed captures of our test images. Photocopies were well up to scratch, even if the Canon made the slowest colour copies here.
