Our Rating
With its smart, light-grey casing and diminutive size, a packed-up Canon Selphy CP510 would look great on any desk.
However, like its sibling, the CP710, the clean lines are compromised once you attach the paper tray. We can deal with the aesthetics, but not with how this hampers the device's portability. However, the cables do have integrated Velcro-like tags to help keep them tidy.
It's one of only two devices on test here that don't feature slots for memory cards. Connection is via USB or PictBridge, the open standard that allows you to print directly from many digital cameras. There's a full-sized USB port for connecting cameras in the usual way, but Canon has also included a hook on the front of the printer that pulls out a short length of retractable cable, at the end of which is a mini USB connection. Although the design of such connections can vary, it's likely you'll be able to connect your camera to it.
Picture quality was excellent and on a par with the CP710, with which it shares the same basic print engine; our comments for the latter (see right) apply here.
Despite its pocket-friendly credentials, however, the Canon Selphy CP510 is limited by not having memory card slots, and, as with the CP710, we're worried about how long the prints will last.
