Though this is the second most expensive printer in this group test it's still costs only £28 more than the cheapest.
It's a simple four-pass device, so colour pages take more than four times as long to print as mono ones. However, the C1100 was the second fastest colour printer here and comfortably the fastest to print black text.
The AcuLaser only has one paper input tray with a low capacity of 180 sheets. Although it has the best mono running costs in this test, it comes with low capacity toners that will soon replacing more frequently than on other models. It's the only printer in this test with a parallel port.
The Epson produces razor-sharp text, bold and lively colour graphics, and superb photographs with natural colours and little grain. When we last reviewed the AcuLaser, the only thing that denied it a Best Buy award was its above-average colour print costs. These have now fallen and we've no hesitation in giving it the award.
