Epson Stylus D78 review
Verdict:
The D78 isn't aimed at photo enthusiasts, but it isn't a great general-purpose printer either.

Our Rating
Epson's Stylus D78 is a general-purpose printer that isn't specifically designed for photo printing.
Even so, Epson says it can produce "photo lab quality" prints. It doesn't have any memory card slots or a PictBridge port, but it is one of the least expensive inkjets you can buy. It's compact and lightweight, but it looks pretty uninspiring. Though it's easy to set up, manually aligning its printheads involves printing three test pages and takes some time.
One of the first things we noticed about the D78 is the racket it makes. Each movement of its printheads is bad enough, but the loud noise it makes as it moves paper through its innards is really annoying.
On plain paper, the D78 was only able to produce good prints at its highest, and slowest, quality settings. We were unimpressed with its photo prints, which had flat, lifeless colours and a dull finish that was easy to mark. At least prints weren't grainy and it reproduced fine details quite well.
