AMD introduces five new Athlon II and Phenom II processors
Posted on 25 Jan 2010 at 15:07
AMD has expanded its Athlon and Phenom families with five new chips. First up is the firm's fastest dual-core processor to date: the Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition runs at a heady 3.2GHz. Early estimates suggest this will cost less than £100 including VAT.
Next is the Athlon II X4 635. This is a budget quad-core part running at 2.9GHz. No prices have been announced yet for the 635, or the two new low-power processors, the Athlon II X2 255 and Phenom II X4 910e. These have a TDP of 65W, with clock speeds of 3.1GHz and 2.6GHz respectively.
There's just one new triple-core chip - the Athlon II X3 440. Its cores run at 3GHz, and like the 635, has a TDP of 95W. All chips are designed for socket AM3 and all bar the 910e have just landed in our labs, so we'll post the benchmark results shortly.
