Samsung launches AMOLED Beam handset

Samsung has launched a new mobile handset which features an integrated pico-projector, allowing truly portable presentations.
The Samsung SPH-W9600 - also known as the AMOLED Beam, named for its two main features - replaces the company's existing SPH-W7900 projection handset and allows images and videos stored on the device to be projected up to 50" diagonal via a small lens concealed under a protective cover on the top of the device.
Designed for sharing photos, videos, and presentations - and with the handset itself supporting the DivX video standard and Microsoft Office files, along with an integral DMB mobile TV tuner - the projector isn't particularly high resolution, but it does save carrying around a second device if you're hoping to share your content.
As its name suggests, the handset also features an ultra-bright 3.3in WVGA AMOLED display, along with Bluetooth compatibility, support for microSD cards, and a 5 megapixel auto-focus camera on the rear. There's no mention of what using the pico-projector does to your battery life, of course, but expect lifespan to be measured in single-digit hours during a projected video.
Demonstrated over on the Samsung
website and with the salient features helpfully translated over on Akihabara News, Samsung hasn't yet provided any information on pricing - or on whether the handset will ship outside the company's native Korea.
