Samsung announces SP-H03 pico-projector

Samsung has opted to enter the pico-projector market for the first time with the SP-H03 - the company's "self-contained personal device."
Slightly bizarre description aside, the cube-like exterior of the SP-H03 - showcased over on HotHardware - hides an LED-based projector offering a 854x480 display at a diagonal size of between 9in to 80in depending on the distance between the projector and the projection surface. An integrated 1W speaker offers audio output, although the size means that it's hardly likely to be hi-fi quality.
The SP-H03 includes 1GB of internal memory for the storage of content - upgradable to 16GB via a microSD card - and supports AVI, MP4, ASF, MPG, RM, FLV, WMV, JPEG, PNG, BMP, GIF, MP3, MP2, WAV, WMA, FLAC, APE, and RA format files for playback without the need to connect the projector to a PC.
Designed to be as self-contained as possible, the pico-projector can run for up to two hours from its internal battery - and has an estimated lifespan of around 30,000 hours for the LEDs.
While the SP-H03 is extremely unlikely to replace a main office projector, it's a neat - and compact - gadget for anyone who might make impromptu presentations away from the office. Sadly for Samsung, it's entering an increasingly crowded market and will need to compete with established pico-projectors such as Sapphire's Mini
Projector 101.
Although UK pricing hasn't been confirmed, the SP-H03 is expected to launch in the US for around $300 (£205).
