Sony has confirmed that it will be launching the Nasne personal video recorder (PVR) add-on for its PlayStation 3 console towards the end of the month in Japan.
The device, which is styled along the same theme as the current-generation slimmer PlayStation 3 console, includes a dedicated 500GB hard drive for recording and tuners for digital terrestrial and satellite TV feeds. When connected, the system can be controlled entirely through the PlayStation 3 XMB user interface.
In addition to its PVR functionality - which includes scheduled and on-demand recording as well as live pause functionality - the Nasne also operates as a Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) device, streaming its content to other compatible systems on a wired or wireless home network - including to Sony's Vita hand-held console.
"We are offering a seamless and unique Sony experience through Nasne, which serves as a home entertainment hub that connects to Sony's various network products", claimed Sony president Kazuo Hirai at the launch announcement. "Nasne will give users more freedom to enjoy television in new ways by enabling them to watch programs on various Sony products through dedicated applications. We will continue to offer attractive products and services that inspire customers around the world and spark their curiosity, by further enhancing collaboration within Sony groups."
Sadly, while Hirai confirmed that the Nasne will be launching in Japan on the 30th of August for ¥16,800 (around £137 excluding taxes,) his company has yet to confirm plans for releasing the Nasne in the UK.
