Virgin Media offers HD with no monthly fee with new V HD Box

Virgin Media is making a big push into the HD market with its new [a href="http://www.virginmediapeople.com/hd/" target="_blank"] V HD Box. Aside from the one-off fee of £49 plus installation (currently £35, but a self-install option of £15 will be available from 1st April 2010) there are no additional fees for HD channels
On initial inspection this seems a fairly good deal, as Sky currently charges an additional £10 for receiving its HD channels, that deal includes the Sky+ HD PVR; the new V HD is only a set-top box and can't record channels. If you want a PVR, as well, you have to upgrade to the V+ HD box, which costs £5 a month on all TV packages except for the top TV XL.
That said, if you've got a multi-room installation at home, having a second HD box could be useful, particularly as Virgin Media is expanding its HD channel line up. Later this year HD channels from ITV, Eurosport, Discovery, Sci Fi, E4 and Film4 will all be added to the existing line up of the BBC and Channel 4, ESPN, National Geographic, FX and Living.
The box also gets you access to Virgin Media's excellent on-demand service. People interested in buying a V HD Box can register their interest online.
