Kingston HyperX 8GB KHX16C9X3K2/8X review
Kingston’s HyperX performance memory range has been around for a decade, according to the heat diffuser on this special 10th anniversary edition. Fortunately, although the silver heat sink looks particularly festive, you won’t be charged over the odds for this 8GB memory kit - it's a reasonable £5.63 per gigabyte.
The kit contains two 4GB memory modules with a rated speed of 1,600MHz. Selecting the appropriate XMP profile for this speed configures latency settings of 9-9-9-27 at 1.65V. When running our usual application benchmarks with the memory set up like this, we got an overall score of 102, compared to a score of 101 when we ran our benchmarks at the memory’s detected default speed of 1,333MHz.
Although using 4GB modules means that you’ll only be able to fit a maximum of 16GB of memory on to most motherboards, that’s more than enough for any purpose we can think of, up to and including memory intensive tasks such as video encoding. We also appreciated the low profile heat spreader, which means that this kit won’t get in the way if you want to use even an enormous CPU cooler.
This is an excellent RAM kit, but we'd buy the Crucial BLE2CP4G3D1869DE1TX0CEU kit instead for the same price, thanks to its high-rated speed. However, if you're worried the tall Crucial RAM won’t fit next to a large processor cooler, this Kingston set is a great buy.
