No Scratch Press The Book of Visual Basic 2005  [Computer Shopper]

The subtitle .NET Insight for Classic VB Developers might make you think this is a book for .NET beginners. However, Matthew MacDonald's clear explanations will be useful to even advanced .NET programmers. He enthusiastically covers the controversial issue of why VB 6, or classic VB, had to be replaced by something so many found alien. Additional topics covered include using forms, using classes and objects, multithreading, XML, ADO and ASP .NET.

The examples are short and illustrate the points well, but there are no realistic examples. Still, the quality of the explanations is worth far more than complex practical examples. If you want to understand the rationale behind .NET, and VB 2005 in particular, this is an excellent place to start.
