Acer Stream smartphone due to launch

Acer is set to launch a new Android handset to follow on from its well-received Acer Liquid - the Acer Stream.
While an official launch date hasn't yet been announced, smartphone retailer Expansys has the device listed as available from the 3rd of August - and its specifications are certainly an improvement over its predecessor.
The Android smartphone is based around a 1GHz processor rather than the 768MHz chip used in the Liquid, while the biggest complaint we had about the Liquid - its use of the out-dated Android 1.6 operating system - has been rectified with an upgrade to Android 2.1.
Sadly, the handset is set to launch without the excellent Android 2.2 - which means buyers will miss out on Adobe Flash support, mobile hot-spot features, and performance enhancements unless Acer releases an update after launch.
The same 5 megapixel auto-focus camera features on the Stream as was on the Liquid, and sadly still does not come with an in-built flash for low-light photography - although the Stream now features HD video recording, with video playback possible either on the 3.7in AMOLED 800x400 display or an external HDTV or monitor via the included HDMI output.
Expansys is currently accepting pre-orders for the Stream at £399.99 - although official pricing from Acer is not yet available, so that figure could change over the next few days.
