Google adds multi-touch to Nexus phone
Posted on 3 Feb 2010 at 17:19
As of today users of Google's Nexus One handset will be able to use multi-touch gestures akin to those on Apple's iPhone. Pinch-to-zoom has been added, so users can zoom in-and-out using two fingers. This will work in the phone's Browser, Gallery and Maps applications.
Google Maps have been updated to version 3.4. This will synchronise your favourite places between your phone and PC via your online Google Maps account. It will also offer search suggestions based on previous entries. In addition, a night mode has been added to the navigation mode, making the screen easier to view at night.
Also added is an onboard version of Google Goggles, rather than using the current online application. As before the app allows users to identify places and objects using the phone's camera, but it's now easier to access and use.
At present the Nexus One, which is manufactured by HTC, is only available to buy unlocked and sim free in the UK on import. A contract version of the phone, on the Vodafone network, should be available soon. See here for more details of the Nexus One.
