Nexus One on Vodafone experiences delay

If you've been holding out for subsidised versions of Google's Nexus One smartphone to appear before making your next purchase, we've got some bad news: there's a delay.
According to ElectricPig the planned release of a contract version of the HTC-manufactured Nexus One smartphone on Vodafone has been pushed back to the middle of next month, for reasons unknown.
While the Android-based handset is already available directly from Google for around £360, the unlocked contract-free version is delivered from the US - potentially adding both delays and cost in the form of import tax and VAT.
The original - but now delayed - plan was for the handset to be made available on various Vodafone contracts starting at £35 per month, with the monthly cost rapidly rising if you want the handset for free.
While no explanation has been given for the delay, it's an odd decision for Vodafone to make: by releasing the Nexus One in April, it will clash with HTC Legend, another HTC-manufactured Android-based smartphone.
While Google will clearly be hoping that its own-brand handset will win the war, neither it nor HTC will come out a loser in this battle: both handsets are manufactured by the latter and feature the Android operating system made by the former.
