Nokia N8 specs revealed
Posted on 28 Apr 2010 at 14:45
Nokia's new flagship smartphone, the N8, has been officially announced - but initial reports are underwhelming.
The specifications of the new handset, which is based around Nokia's own Symbian^3 operating system, are impressive enough: a 12 megapixel camera is capable of recording 720p HD video and features face recognition for sharp portraits, while recorded footage can be played back on an external display thanks to an included HDMI output.
The display is a 3.5 inch AMOLED multi-touch screen with a resolution of 640x360 - a reasonable resolution, if not the best in the modern smartphone market. WiFi and Bluetooth are both included as standard, along with a GPS receiver for on-the-go positioning.
The handset includes a generous 16GB of storage, with the ability to add more via a microSD slot.
The body of the handset is allegedly created from a single piece of aluminium, giving the device a rugged feel with a slightly Apple-esque aesthetic - reinforced by Nokia's plans to offer the handset in five different colours.
Sadly, an early review of the device on Russian site Mobile Review suggests the handset is disappointing to use, with poor results from the camera and "little new" in functionality over previous Symbian smartphones.
Only time will tell if the N8 is enough for Nokia to reclaim the smartphone space from the iPhone and Android-based handsets.

Do Your Homework
Since you published on the 28th, it is interesting you used a half baked rant from Mobile Review's Eldar instead of reading Nokia's official statement on the matter. Here is the link, to help you get your research in order next time around:

Nokia clearly states the N8 unethically obtained by Eldar was a prototype with PRE-release software. More specifically, the fact that the software seemed immature should've been blatantly obvious since it was an early variant, according to Nokia. Maybe you should focus on credible sources first. Or do you prefer buying PUTS of NOK the day of your article?
