PhotoPlus is a more complete image editor than Adobe Photoshop Elements, and thus less easily outgrown. It’s cosmetically outshone by Corel Paint Shop Pro X3, but when you get into the serious tools it feels more coherent. In both cases, Serif falls behind on the creative hand-holding, and Corel’s inclusion of Painter Essentials 4 will sway some users. But if what you want is competent all-round image manipulation, it’s worth looking beyond the surface of PhotoPlus X4.
