Apple touts for handwriting expert
Posted on 28 Mar 2008 at 11:12
Apple is advertising for a handwriting recognition engineer responsible for advancing Apple's handwriting recognition technology for Mac OS X.
Apple introduced Ink handwriting recognition with the release of OS X 10.2 Jaguar in 2002, but it remains a little known and little used technology, dormant unless compatible device, typically a stylus and tablet device, is connected.
However the advent of the touchscreen technology on the iPhone and iPod touch, plus the multitouch trackpads on the MacBooks Air and Pro, opens up new possibilities.
The job advertisement notes that the successful candidate will assume primary responsibility for maintaining and enhancing existing code and tools but that he recognition technology created may extend beyond Mac OS X to other applications and the iPhone.
