Safari triples on Windows

Apple's widely condemned decision to automatically install Safari 3.1 as part of a Windows iTunes update appears to have paid off.

According to Net Applications' Market Share figures, Safari 3.1 is already three times as popular as version 3.0 amongst Windows users.

With Mac data included, Safari is edging towards 5% of the browser "market share", still a long way short of Firefox's 16%. Internet Explorer continues to account for the vast majority of web usage.

Apple has altered its Windows updater to separate updates from new software, though Safari is still installed by default.
