AOL offers three broadband packages, each with download speeds of up to 8Mbit/s.
However, our survey showed that the average download speed was only 3.35Mbit/s. This puts AOL third from bottom among the 8Mbit/s services here. It also scored a lowly 58 per cent in our customer satisfaction survey.
The Wireless and Wireless Flexi packages are very similar. Both cost £15 a month, with the first three months discounted to £4.99 a month. There's a 10GB download limit, and regularly exceeding this will result in reduced speeds at peak hours. Wireless has no setup costs but there's an 18-month contract. Wireless Flexi costs £30 to set up, but you can cancel with one month's notice.
Wireless Plus has a 40GB download limit. It costs £20 a month and comes as a lengthy two-year contract. However, you get a free HP laptop worth around £375 including VAT. All three packages come with a wireless router.
If you want the laptop and need a big download limit, Wireless Plus is a good deal. The other two should be avoided. Nildram Lite offers a better all-round service for those who can't get packages from Sky, Virgin, O2 or Be.
