Underground glitch leaves passengers needing new cards
Posted on 14 Jul 2008 at 14:57
Transport for London (TfL) incurred technical problems with its Oyster card service over the weekend, leaving tens of thousands of travellers to replace their cards.
TfL is also seeking to refund travellers after charging them penalty fares despite most fines being attributable to its own computer glitch.
In a statement, TfL admitted there was a technical problem on the morning of Saturday 12th July for around five hours. It said the problem had been rectified at around 9.30am, but left some Oyster cards no longer working.
The pre-paid cards are used as payment for public transport around the Capital. Customers have been advised to get a replacement from their local London Underground station.
"We are investigating the cause of the problem and apologise to our passengers for the inconvenience caused," said TfL.
