Modding your Xbox gets you banned

Microsoft is banning users who illegally modify their Xbox 360s from its Xbox Live service. The company is cracking down on users who have modified their consoles to be able to play pirated games.
"Microsoft has taken action against a small percentage of Xbox 360 consoles that have been illegally modified in order to play pirated games," said Larry Hryb, Xbox Live's director of programming, in his blog.
"You should know that modifying your Xbox 360 console is also a violation of the Xbox LIVE terms of use, will void your warranty and result in a ban from Xbox LIVE."
The crackdown coincides with the launch of Gears of War 2 - a title anticipated to be one of the consoles most successful. The company explained that the health of the video game business depends on customers paying for the genuine products and services.
"Microsoft will continue to employ and bolster its anti-piracy security measures to counter piracy in the gaming industry," the company told Shopper in a statement.
"For example, opening an Xbox for modification voids the warranty, and may cause the system to work improperly. Moreover, customers can only enjoy access to the Xbox Live community through the use of the genuine Xbox console."
