Apple hits market share highs
Posted on 2 Dec 2008 at 11:10
Safari accounted for more than 7% of browser usage in November, its highest share to date.
Net Applications' latest monthly figures give Apple's browser 7.13% of the market, while Mozilla's Firefox also passed a milestone of its own, accounting for more than 20% of browser usage for the first time.
The rising popularity of both browsers continues to erode the dominance of market leader Internet Explorer, which, in another first, has dipped below 70%.
Where there is bad news for Microsoft there is often better news for Google. And so it has proved, with its Chrome browser increasing its share from 0.74% in October to 0.83%.
Safari's growth follows the surge in Mac sales over the last two years, which is reflected in Net Applications' figures for operating system shares of internet access. OS X's share rose to 8.87% in November as Windows dipped below 90%.
