Apple has released Mac OS X 10.5.6, a wide-ranging update that includes more than a dozen security fixes.
The Leopard update addresses issues with Address Book syncing and Mobile Me, iChat, Time Machine and Safari and fixes several problems with the Mail application.
It also addresses a number of networking issues, notably problem with AirPort wifi connections, particularly on Intel Macs.
There are also improvements to the performance of gaming graphics and a fix for possible graphics distortion issues with certain ATI graphics cards. Printing issues with Adobe CS3 applications and USB Brother and Canon printers have also been addressed.
Other areas addressed by the update include Parental Controls, the performance and reliability of Chess, DVD Player and iCal performance.
And users of portable Macs get a Trackpad system preference.
The security component of the update addresses 15 flaws that could variously lead to a denial of service, arbitrary code execution, unexpected application termination or the hijacking of a user’s credentials. It includes a fix for multiple vulnerabilities in Adobe Flash Player plug-in.
Mac OS X 10.5.6 is available via Software Update or from apple.com/support/downloads. The security component is also available separately as Security Update 2008-008 from the same web page.
